The Lord’s Supper is celebrated here at Bethany Lutheran in the confession and glad confidence that, as He says, our Lord Jesus Christ gives us His very body and blood under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sins.
“This is My body, which is given for you… This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:19–20)
“Is not the cup of blessing that we bless a participation in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?” (1 Corinthians 10:16)
Our Lord invites to His table those who:
If you are not yet instructed, or if you hold a different confession of faith, we ask you to refrain from communing today. You are warmly invited to come forward with hands crossed over your chest to receive a blessing, or to speak with the pastor after the service to learn more about this Sacrament and our shared confession.
“Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” (1 Corinthians 11:28)
“Whoever eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:29)
We receive this gift with reverence and joy, trusting in Christ’s promise:
“Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:26)
